He holds black belt ranking in Tae Kwon Do and Shorin Ryu Karate and has also trained in boxing, kick boxing, escrima and aikido. He has been a member of the Bujinkan Shingitai-Ichi Dojo since 2008 and received his teaching license in 2016 when he visited Japan.
At fifty years old, Charlie is living proof that Budo Taijutsu is effective against younger, stronger, and even larger aggressors. He was pleased to hear Soke Masaaki Hatsumi state that one cannot truly be a warrior before age fifty. Charlie heartily agrees.
Charlie believes that the paradox of training is that martial ability occurs when formlessness is expressed physically – a challenge which forges the spirit itself and why Charlie continues to train and teach.
